As part of its commitment to promoting awareness of alternative fuels, AAA of Northern California is debuting its 'Greenlight Initiative Showcase' featuring six alternative fuel vehicles at the San Francisco International Auto Show.
"It's fitting that the showcase is premiering today, November 17, because the City of San Francisco has declared today 'Alternative Fuels Awareness Day,'" said AAA of Northern California spokesperson Jenny Mack.
The AAA Greenlight Initiative Showcase will be open to auto show visitors November 18-26. Cars on display include a rarely-displayed prototype all-electric Sport Utility Truck from Phoenix Motorcars; a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) from CalCars that gets 100+ mpg; a VW Jetta that runs on waste vegetable oil, from the County of Alameda; a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle from the California Air Resources Board; and a San Francisco Police Department patrol car that runs on compressed natural gas. AAA will also display one of the company's own fleet vehicles, a Toyota Prius. AAA announced this year it will be converting its entire company fleet of 400 vehicles to hybrids.
With our dependence on oil continuing to grow, interest in alternative fuels has never been stronger. AAA of Northern California believes we are entering a new chapter in the history of the automobile and we want to help make sense of all the new options becoming available. The AAA Greenlight Initiative Showcase highlights the latest in alternative fuel technology and puts the spotlight on what we can expect to see on the roads in the years ahead.
AAA members are eligible for a 2-for-1 admission coupon for the auto show. Coupons are available at select AAA offices and online at www.aaa.com. In addition to information about alternative fuels, the showcase will feature AAA membership and insurance information, including the chance to win a $500 gift certificate from AAA Travel. AAA members are able to enter a members-only drawing to win a Magellan RoadMate AAA Edition. This special edition of the Magellan RoadMate is the only auto navigation device to integrate the AAA TourBook guide listings for quick routing to AAA rated hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
